{"id":333,"date":"2018-11-27T04:20:24","date_gmt":"2018-11-27T04:20:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christopherebright.com\/?p=333"},"modified":"2018-11-27T04:20:24","modified_gmt":"2018-11-27T04:20:24","slug":"musings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christopherebright.com\/?p=333","title":{"rendered":"Musings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over my 20 + years of teaching, I&#8217;ve come to adopt certain concepts and mantras that hold true through the test of time.\u00a0 Here are some of my favorites.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Retractions of any kind are just one thing &#8211; BAD<\/li>\n<li>Just remember, your patient didn&#8217;t read the textbook.<\/li>\n<li>There is Registry and then there is Reality.<\/li>\n<li>You <strong>bag<\/strong> groceries and <strong>ventilate<\/strong> patients.<\/li>\n<li>Examine thoroughly, so you can anticipate and treat properly.<\/li>\n<li>Just because you can, doesn&#8217;t mean you should.<\/li>\n<li>Always be prepared because Murphy is always watching.<\/li>\n<li>You can&#8217;t count <em>r<span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-weight: 400;\">espiration<\/span>s<\/em>, but you can count <em>ventilations<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>When faced with an obstacle, focus and work the problem.<\/li>\n<li>Physiology is how the body works, pathophysiology is how it&#8217;s busted. You must have a working knowledge of both.<\/li>\n<li>Every willing student can learn, s\/he just won&#8217;t learn the same way as their peers.<\/li>\n<li>The best educators are flexible and can diversify their delivery of information.<\/li>\n<li>There is no substitute for a positive, encouraging, and understanding mentor.<\/li>\n<li>Teachers make the slides; Instructors read the slides; Educators don&#8217;t need the slides.<\/li>\n<li>When a student mentions the &#8220;Q&#8221; word during a clinical rotation, preceptors cringe.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What are some of your guiding principles that have stuck with you throughout your career?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over my 20 + years of teaching, I&#8217;ve come to adopt certain concepts and mantras that hold true through the test of time.\u00a0 Here are some of my favorites.
